Hotels near CONSOL Energy Center, Pittsburgh

If your top priority is being as close as possible to the arena (formerly known as CONSOL Energy Center, now PPG Paints Arena), Cambria Hotel Pittsburgh - Downtown is undeniably the best choice in the city. Located at 1320 Centre Avenue, this hotel essentially shares a parking lot with the venue, making it the ultimate home base for Pittsburgh Penguins games, concerts, and major events.

Unbeatable Location

• Steps from the Action: You are literally a 1-to-2-minute walk from the arena gates. You won't have to worry about rideshare surge pricing, navigating post-event traffic, or walking long distances in Pittsburgh's unpredictable winter weather.
• Downtown Access: Aside from the arena, you are within walking distance or a very short drive to downtown Pittsburgh, the Strip District, and Duquesne University.

Rooms & Comfort

Cambria is an upscale brand by Choice Hotels, and the rooms here reflect a modern, spacious design:

• Suite-Style Layouts: Most rooms offer a semi-divided living area with a sleeper sofa, making them much larger than the average downtown hotel room.
• Modern Amenities: Rooms come equipped with a microwave, mini-fridge, Keurig coffee maker, and stylish bathrooms featuring Bluetooth mirrors.

Hotel Amenities

• Food & Drink: The on-site restaurant and bar, Share on Centre, is a lively spot to grab dinner and pre-game drinks before heading next door. They also serve a hot breakfast in the morning (usually for an additional fee).
• Relaxation & Fitness: Unlike many downtown properties, this hotel features an indoor heated pool and a hot tub, alongside a well-equipped fitness center.

Things to Keep in Mind

• Event Night Crowds: Because of its prime location, the hotel lobby and bar get extremely busy before and after arena events. Expect a vibrant, high-energy atmosphere rather than a quiet retreat on game nights.
• Parking: On-site garage parking is available and convenient, though it comes with a standard downtown nightly fee.

The Verdict: For anyone attending an event at the arena, you simply cannot beat the location of the Cambria Hotel Pittsburgh - Downtown. It combines modern comfort with the luxury of walking straight from your room to your seat in minutes.

Dining and Amenities

Because this hotel is a hub for event attendees, the common areas have a lively, energetic atmosphere on game and concert nights.

• Steelhead Brasserie and Wine Bar: The on-site restaurant and bar is a massive perk. It serves American cuisine with a local twist and is a very popular spot for pre-event dinners or post-game drinks.
• Fitness and Recreation: The hotel boasts a well-equipped 24-hour fitness center and a heated indoor lap pool, which is a great bonus for families or those looking to unwind.

Pros & Cons for Event-Goers

Pros:

• Full-Service Amenities: Great on-site dining, indoor pool, and reliable Marriott service.

Cons:

• Crowds: The lobby, elevators, and hotel bar can get very crowded right before and after major arena events.
• Parking Costs: Like most downtown hotels, on-site valet and self-parking come with a hefty nightly fee (though you save money by not having to pay for arena parking).

Verdict

For anyone attending a concert or sporting event at the arena, the Pittsburgh Marriott City Center is a top-tier pick. The convenience of walking right across the street to your room after an event makes it well worth the stay.

Address: One Bigelow Square, Pittsburgh, PA

If you are heading to Pittsburgh for a Penguins game, a concert, or a major event at the arena (formerly CONSOL Energy Center, now known as PPG Paints Arena), the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown is one of the most convenient accommodations you can book.

1. Proximity to the Arena (5/5)

The standout feature of this hotel is its location. Situated at One Bigelow Square, you are less than half a mile—or just about a 5 to 7-minute walk—from the arena gates. You simply walk out the front door, head up Bigelow Boulevard or Centre Avenue, and you are there. This eliminates the need for expensive event parking or waiting in long rideshare lines after a show lets out.

2. Rooms & Suites

Unlike many standard downtown hotels that offer cramped quarters, this property features a large number of suites.

• Space: The suites are particularly great if you are traveling with family or a group of friends for a game, offering separate living areas and pull-out sofas.
• Comfort: The rooms are clean, modern, and equipped with Hilton’s signature Sweet Dreams beds. Some rooms even come with kitchenettes (microwave and mini-fridge), which is a nice perk for storing leftovers and drinks.

3. Amenities & Perks

• The Famous Cookie: As expected with any DoubleTree, you are greeted at check-in with their signature warm chocolate chip cookie.
• Dining: The on-site restaurant and lounge, Bigelow Grille, is a fantastic spot to grab dinner and pre-game drinks before walking up the hill to the arena. They focus on locally sourced ingredients and have a solid bar menu.
• Fitness & Pool: The hotel features an indoor heated pool and a well-equipped fitness center, which is a rare find in downtown Pittsburgh properties.
• Subway Access: The Steel Plaza "T" (light rail) station is right next to the hotel, allowing you to ride for free to other downtown spots or over to the North Shore (home to the Steelers and Pirates stadiums).

4. Things to Keep in Mind

• Parking: Like most downtown hotels, overnight parking is pricey. However, since you can walk directly to the arena and use the free light rail to explore the rest of the city, you can simply park your car once and forget about it.
• Event Crowds: Because it is so close to the arena, the lobby and bar area can get quite busy on game nights and before major concerts. Plan accordingly if you want to eat at the hotel restaurant before your event.

The Verdict

For anyone attending an event at the arena, the DoubleTree by Hilton at One Bigelow Square is a top-tier choice. It balances typical Hilton reliability, extra-spacious rooms, and an unbeatable walking distance that makes getting to and from your event completely stress-free.
