Why book?
For an affordable, reliable stay smack dab in the thick of Downtown Miami that feels impenetrably tranquil despite the noise all around.
Set the scene
There are two entry points to the Gale: through the high-ceilinged, grand valet on one side, and rose-hued Casa Gianna on the other. The latter is the onsite Italian restaurant, a grand dining room buzzing with the chic and unassuming. Either route makes for quite the entrance to this sparkling 51-story tower where glamorous people with things to do come and go at steady clips.
The backstory
This is the second outpost from the Gale brand, the first being in nearby South Beach (guests at this location have access to a beach club across the street on 1st).
The rooms
The rooms here mirror the residences in the same building, so you can book a studio, one-bedroom, or two-bedroom options ranging from 410 to 910 square feet. Most of these have full kitchens and washer-dryers, so you can really set up shop. Decor is minimal and modern, with black-and-white photography on the walls and furniture in neutral colors. The windows are floor-to-ceiling for the most part, meaning massive Miami views. All of this to say: the rooms feel like real apartments, albeit a tad impersonal ones.
Food and drink
Casa Gianna really is excellent, thanks in no small part to the fabulous service. It helps, too, that the food is extremely solid whether you’re there for breakfast, lunch, or dinner (all being options) or even just a drink (the old-fashioned Italiano with Amaro montenegro is particularly excellent). Grab a cushy booth and sit back for some Italian classics like rigatoni alla vodka and chicken parm, plus lighter and brighter Miami-style bites like Sicilian mussels in clam juice and pickled watermelon salad.
The spa
The spa facility here, Gale Wellness, is very impressive, most of all for its sauna, steam room, and cold plunge—each have a room of their own and are accessible to guests and residents alike. Spa treatments, meanwhile, run the gamut of classic massages and facials—you can’t go wrong.
The neighborhood/area
It’s downtown Miami, so the neighborhood is a bit sterile, a bit corporate, a bit close in proximity to the cruise terminals. But you’re well positioned to taxi or cycle to all of the more desirable neighborhoods, chief among them Miami Beach and Wynwood.
The service
Laidback and lovely, the service does the trick.
Accessibility
Elevators access all levels, while the extra-wide hallways are easily traversable.
Anything left to mention?
Take out a bike to Miami Beach—you’ll fly past traffic and will not regret it.
