Why book:
For spacious rooms, a standout spa experience, and a breadth of onsite dining
Set the scene:
You’ll be surrounded mostly by older, well-to-do travelers visiting the energetic city for pleasure or business—or you can rub elbows with locals snagging a cocktail at the bar of the property’s contemporary Portuguese restaurant, Erva. Pack your muted-tone shirts and pressed trousers, and get ready to be surrounded by warm indulgence and expert service.
The rooms:
With a palette rooted in earthy tones and splashes of baby blues, every room is truly perfect. And I don’t say that lightly. Everything feels luxurious—from the beds to the light fixtures—but not grossly opulent. The sense of home and relaxation permeates above all. Every room is outfitted with a Nespresso coffee machine and a complimentary selection of teas, and you’ll find ESPA products stocked in the bathroom. If you are willing to splurge (and, trust me, you should), you will feel like royalty staying in the Maritime Suite. Bigger than your average city apartment, you’ll have a ridiculous amount of space divided among a dedicated living room, dining room, private office, and completely separate bedroom. Not to even mention the master marble bathroom equipped with a rain shower, double sinks, and a freestanding tub that overlooks panoramic views of the monumental Águas Livres Aqueduct. Beyond room amenities, your suite booking also includes access to the Sky Lounge which features complimentary breakfast, canapés, and drinks served throughout the day. You will also have free access to the onsite spa’s Hydrotherapy Circuit, including sauna and Turkish bath.
Food and drink:
Lisbon is no longer a secret dining destination, experiencing a tourism boom that has exposed a whole new audience to the wonders and sheer versatility of cod. And if cod is what you’re after, you can certainly order an excellent version of the country’s classic dish at Erva, the onsite contemporary Portuguese restaurant, served with oven potatoes, greens, garlic chips, and cornbread. A chic, inviting space that leans heavily into decor dominated by vertical gardens filled with dangling plants and potted jungle greens, Erva is a must-visit for a glass of vinho verde and a delicious meal. If you’re staying over the weekend, you can also catch live Portuguese music every Friday and Saturday evening. Heads up: the octopus rice dish, while absolutely delicious, is an entire baby octopus and truly enormous in size. Plan to share this entree or be unable to eat anything else on the menu.
Looking to branch out from Portuguese cuisine? Don't worry, Corinthia Lisbon has two other restaurants on property that are worthy of a visit. Enjoy Asian and Latin American dishes at Soul Garden Restaurant & Bar (and don’t skimp on their expert mocktail selection), or dine al fresco at Olivae Restaurant & Terrace which serves up delightful Mediterranean fare.
The spa:
A deserving destination in its own right, the spa at Corinthia Lisbon is a relaxation haven. They offer a myriad of treatments, from those you can expect—full body massages, facials, hand and feet treatments—to more unique offerings—their Sleep Ritual which uses guided breathing and visualizations to an 85 minute Portuguese Discovery experience that draws inspiration from Portuguese history. My personal recommendation? Start with the water therapy circuit (sensory showers, geometric pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, bucket shower, cold plunge, ice fountain and cooling walk) and then pick a treatment based on your desired area of focus. I can personally vouch for the red light therapy body massage as well as the full detox treatment—though, for the latter, be prepared for your body to feel a little woozy after as it works to release all the toxins.
The service
Truly five stars. The front desk staff was warm and full of smiles, food and beverage teams were sharp and attentive, and the spa staff was soothing and gentle. A special shout-out to the turndown service members who made us feel extra special leaving nightly edible treats and personalized notes.
For families
Corinthia Lisbon is one of those rare properties that is a great option for families without feeling like a family-friendly hotel. They offer family rooms and family suites that include complimentary, thoughtful touches like a children’s welcome amenity kit and child-sized robes and slippers. If you’re hoping to hit the spa, they also offer a unique children’s spa menu, with options like the Mom/Dad and Me treatment in a private spa suite that focuses on bonding and relaxing together. And if you want more of a package experience? Not to worry, they offer that, too. You can book their Family Escape deal, which includes a number of perks like complimentary breakfast for up to five people, cookies and hot milk for the children every night before bed, and the option to save 15% on your entry to Lisbon Zoo.
The neighborhood/area
Although the property is not centrally located, all guests have access to the hotel’s free shuttle to Lisbon's historic center which departs approximately every 30 minutes. The hotel is also only a 12 minute walk to Parque Florestal de Monsanto—Lisbon’s largest park—offering a nice (and free) local experience.
Eco effort
Since 2013, the team has been committed to sustainability through their Energy Efficiency Project which embraced a comprehensive lighting upgrade (one of the first large-scale implementations of LED technology in Portugal), upgrades to their water reservoirs, heat exchangers, and laundry equipment, and a commitment to reducing their CO2 footprint. Since the focus on the project began, Corinthia Lisbon has reduced their energy consumption by 32%, seen an annual carbon footprint reduction of 956,286 kg of CO2, and has been the first hotel in Portugal to install charging stations for electric vehicles.
