Why book?
For a convenient, family-friendly ski getaway located slopeside to one of Utah’s best mountain resorts.
Set the scene
The Grand Hyatt Deer Valley is the first hotel to open at Deer Valley’s East Village ski base that will serve as the launching point to the resorts’ expanded ski terrain. Compared to downtown Park City and most Deer Valley resort accommodations, the hotel is positioned on the opposite side of the mountain overlooking the Jordanelle Reservoir. Because of its slightly isolated location, everyone staying here during the winter is here for one reason: to ski. (Deer Valley famously does not permit snowboarding.) My March 2025 stay overlapped with Spring Break, which meant many of the resort guests were families skiing with younger children. Home to one of the largest event and conference spaces in the area—which hosted several Sundance Film Festival events this year—the hotel will also prove popular among business travelers and group corporate retreats. While this is a luxury resort, expect your fellow guests to be dressed in snowpants and ski boots more often than not—don’t be shy to waltz through the lobby in your long johns.
The backstory
The Deer Valley East Village expansion is a massive project set to double the mountain’s skiable terrain by 2027, which will make it one of the largest ski resorts in the country. The Grand Hyatt opening marks the first phase of the multi-year roll out—as of 2025, the most noticeable change is that the East Village is now connected to the rest of Deer Valley Resort via a handful of new trails and three new chairlifts (including the Keetley Express chairlift, the resort's first heated bubble lift). From the Grand Hyatt ski locker room, it’s a five-minute walk or quick shuttle ride to the Keetley Express, which can take you to five new runs: Northern Light, Green Monster, Age of Reason, Carbenite, and one of my favorite new trails, Lady of the Lake. The majority of the new ski trails are set to open in 2026—and from the small preview I got, they’re bound to be awesome. Up until this point, the only major slopeside hotel at Deer Valley was the St. Regis (most of the ski-in-ski-out accommodations here are vacation rentals), and the Grand Hyatt offers a much more accessible price point.
The rooms
The rooms are modern and simple. If you can, opt for views of the Jordanelle Reservoir. Rooms overlooking the mountain at this point will also overlook a fair amount of construction. Despite all the activity going on outside, noise was never an issue.
Food and drink
There is a nice variety of dining options, meaning you never have to leave the resort for a meal—and you won’t tire of the menu (or the views). Fuel up for a day on the slopes at the main restaurant, Remington Hall, which serves a yummy breakfast buffet ($36 per adult and $18 per child) as well as additional a la carte options. Located conveniently next to the ski lockers, Double Blacks is a great coffee shop perfect for caffeine cravings and quick bites. For dinner, return to Remington Hall or check out the restaurant’s more casual wing, The Lounge for a burger and beer—both with delicious dishes from Chef Marc Marrone. Downstairs, Hidden Ace is the property’s “speakeasy” with live music and cocktails. No ski trip is complete without Aprés, and the hotel’s “high chocolate” offering is a memorable and Instagrammable experience that’s already proved a big hit among guests and visitors (so be sure to reserve a spot in advance). Relax by the grand fireplace overlooking the mountainside as you’re delivered triers of sweet pastries and chocolate treats, savory salmon toasts, lobster rolls, and more while Artisanal high chocolate is poured over fluffy cotton candy. If you’re with little ones, squeals of delight are guaranteed.
The spa
The spa is slated to open in mid-2025 and will feature Hamam-style wellness offerings. The outdoor pool area has three large hot tubs, one of which is adults-only. There’s also a large gym with some of the best Peloton views I’ve seen.
The neighborhood/area
The hotel is a 45-minute drive from Salt Lake City airport. Ubers are typically available in-season, but may be harder to get during odd hours or bad weather. The always-fashionable downtown area of Park City is a 15-20 minute drive away; a complimentary shuttle transports guests between the hotel and Main Street from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The service
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. One of the best onsite services available is the Ski Butler, an equipment rental service that allows you to reserve your ski gear online and have it fitted in your hotel room. If you need a fresh kit, the Helly Hansen outlet in the lobby is stocked with all the cold weather essentials—and they can print your lift tickets for you. Store it all in the ski locker room, and getting slopeside is a breeze.
For families
As evidenced by all the families at the hotel during my stay, this is a great choice for big groups with young kids. Kids and teens of all ages could be found hanging out in the Nexus Lounge complete with PS5 and Xbox gaming systems, air hockey, ping pong, vintage arcade games, board games, reading nooks, a miniature kitchen, and puzzles. On the slopes, the new East Village terrain is one of the most beginner-friendly areas of the mountain.
Eco effort
Hyatt is working to reduce food waste and single-use plastics across its portfolio.
Accessibility
Accessible guest rooms with mobility features have doorways with 32 inches of clear width, there are multiple elevators available, and the swimming pool is accessible to wheelchair users.
Anything left to mention?
The construction and development at the East Village base will rapidly evolve over the coming years, and is sure to transform Deer Valley into one of the nation's preeminent luxury ski destinations. Contact the hotel prior to your stay if you are concerned about potential interference from construction or have status-related questions.
