Clean-lined and airy in design and convenient to almost everything visitors to Portland want to see, Aloft manages to be many things to many visitors. It’s a casual and kid-friendly property for young families. It’s an efficient place to bunk down and kick back before meetings if you’re on a business trip. And it’s a stylish base camp for exploring the city (with Fido; well-behaved dogs are invited, too).
Tell us about your room. What made it stand out?
Colorful graphic rugs and splashes of bright furnishings met with pristine white linens and views of Portland harbor and surrounding rooftops all render an energetic feeling of being welcomed and enveloped by the city. Amenities by Dry Bar and walk-in showers (complete with rainfall showerheads) were the icing on the proverbial hospitality cake.

There’s no charge for the fast WiFi for guests.
Drinking and dining—what are we looking at?
WXYZ, the property’s cocktail-and-bar-snacks outfit in the lobby, stays open until midnight and spotlights live tunes from local deejays and acoustic sets. Come the morning, Re:Fuel is the spot to swing by for sustenance.
And how was the service?
Quite good, with a few lapses (a wait for extra pillows here; a neglected ordered side dish there) during the very busy season. For the most part, staff are attentive and eager to make guests as comfortable as possible, as efficiently as possible.
Any other hotel features worth noting?
The gym has a nice combination of cardio and free weights, with plenty of space to sweat without tripping over fellow workout warriors.
Bottom line: Worth it? Why?
With reasonable rates, cool decor, a casual feel, and accommodating staff, Aloft is a very reasonable place to hang your hat while exploring Portland. Moreover, it’s extremely well situated for all of that exploration.
