Why book?
Artsy, design-forward, and located in San Francisco’s Mid-Market district, the Timbri appeals to creatives and cool-seekers who don’t mind minimalist interiors, and want instant access to the city’s cultural icons and hidden gems, from historic theaters and community-driven performance venues to legendary music haunts and world-class museums.
Set the scene
Situated in the revitalized Mid-Market neighborhood, the flatiron-shaped Timbri Hotel is a beacon of design amidst historic theaters and high-tech offices. The contemporary architecture, walkable location, and expansive rooftop bar draw creative professionals, tech entrepreneurs, and art-loving tourists who find this to be the perfect blend of comfort and creative pulse.
The backstory
Originally opened as The LINE San Francisco in 2022, the property was rebranded and renamed in 2024 to become Timbri Hotel, joining Hilton's Curio Collection. Designed by renowned Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) in collaboration with Handel Architects, the hotel is a reflection of the artistic spirit and joie de vivre of the Bay Area.
The rooms
Timbri's 236 rooms and suites embody the modern art scene found at nearby SFMOMA, and the contemporary clientele that feel right at home between white walls and minimalist décor warmed by wood tables, brass lighting, and pops of graphic fabric. Bonus points for huge windows that let in loads of natural light and the deep soaking tubs, double-paned windows for soundproofing and minibars stocked with local snacks. For the best experience, opt for rooms on higher floors to maximize skyline vistas, including the 1,500-square-foot Penthouse Suite, which has a dining table for eight and a balcony.
Food and drink
Start your morning at Spoke Café, the fast-casual coffee shop in the lobby where the Equator espresso flows and local art inspires. Guests can also grab pastries to go, or place an order for a full breakfast and eat in.
When the sun sets, head to the 12th floor and Rise Over Run, the rooftop bar and restaurant that delivers skyline views and a menu whose "Saudade" concept embraces shareable flavors of the Mediterranean, Adriatic, Ionian, Aegean, and Tyrrhenian seas. The standout dish of Killer cocktails and a retractable roof make it a year-round attraction. The rooftop also features cozy fire pits, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere that’s perfect for lingering well into the evening.
The intimate and appropriately named Dark Bar (closed Sundays) is moody, dimly lit, and just right for an intimate rendezvous in a fireside booth, or a post-dinner night cap and decadent dessert while listening to international beats. Go for a classic cocktail or guest favorite: Golden Hour, a refreshing blend of gin, local citrus, and a hint of sage.
The neighborhood/area
If soaking in a dynamic cultural scene is a vacation must, the mid-Market area puts you at the epicenter of music, art, and theater in San Francisco. The Timbri hotel is just a few blocks from SFMOMA and Yerba Buena Gardens, a stumble from Union Square and the Tenderloin, and you can practically hear the applause from the Golden Gate Theatre. Interested in community-based and socially relevant performance art? Check out the calendar at CounterPulse. The legendary Warfield, a former 1920s Vaudeville theater turned legendary musical venue, is just a skip away.
The service
Reaching them by phone was near impossible ( too cool for old school comms?), but once onsite, staff are present and know the city and the surrounding cultural scene. They can also assist with just about any request, from dinner reservations to theater tickets and tours.
Same-day laundry and dry cleaning are available upon request, which is nice for business travelers or long-stay guests.
Families
Connecting rooms make it easy to travel with older kids, grandparents or nannies, but the Timbri Hotel primarily caters to travelers seeking a sophisticated urban experience rather than child-focused activities. If you’re traveling with your four-legged family members, the Timbri welcomes cats and dogs, too.
Eco effort
Timbri Hotel emphasizes sustainability through its design and operations. The building's architecture incorporates natural light and greenery, reducing energy consumption, while partnerships with local artists and suppliers support the community and minimize environmental impact.
Accessibility
The hotel is fully ADA-compliant, featuring step-free entrances, accessible rooms with roll-in showers, braille room numbers, and elevators to all floors, ensuring comfort and convenience for all guests.
