    Why book?

ME Milan Il Duca is a living mood board of Milanese cool—where intelligentsia, artsy families, and anti-office visionaries sip espresso on a luxe rooftop and sway to deep house music. The crowd can parse Giallo’s allegories, quote the Financial Times, and do it all in Bottega.

    Set the scene

Everything feels intentional here. Editorially minded, vibe-forward; the art is curated, not just hung—think Chelsea gallery meets Milanese restraint. I was mid-sentence, tapping away on my laptop in the lounge, when a statuesque Swiss woman glided over and asked me to film her Instagram Reel because her man-friend “just wasn’t getting the shot.” Fortunately, I understood the assignment.

That’s the thing about a Melia property—it’s unexpectedly social. You will make friends. The staff, the guests—they all get it. The crowd is a cocktail of quietly fabulous families with impeccably dressed bambinos, creative business travelers who clearly don’t do cubicles, and Milan’s version of the downtown darling. On night one, I clocked an ivory Birkin at aperitivo hour, casually resting on the banquette. This isn’t flash-for-the-sake-of-it fabulous; this is stealth cool in Prada shades.

    The backstory

Once connected to the old-world Savoy across the street by a skybridge, ME Milan has since cut the cord—and stepped firmly into the future. Don’t come here expecting white-glove service and gilded sconces. This isn’t your grandfather’s luxury. This is where digital nomads, fashion insiders, and aesthetic obsessives come to plug in and vibe out.

Design and sound are the heartbeat of the experience. The lobby is all sculptural lines and gallery lighting, giving it more of an art installation feel than that of a check-in desk. The hotel collaborates with local galleries and global artists to showcase provocative, contemporary works throughout the space, and as a result the atmosphere hums with energy.

Upstairs, music spills from the rooftop Radio Bar—a sunset-to-midnight soundtrack that cascades down to the floors below, setting the tone for everything from outfit changes to late-night edits. Even the key cards play a part: Scan the code and instantly download the hotel’s Spotify playlist, so the energy can travel with you long after you check out.

    The rooms

Let’s start with the enormous bed. I sleep diagonally like a professional, and this thing gave me enough space to stage a whole modern dance routine in my sleep. Housekeeping? Five stars, no notes. The sheets were tucked so tightly you could bounce a euro off them. Sliding in felt like being lovingly swaddled by the universe.

The color palette is moody and refined—steely grays, soft taupes—the kind of calming neutrals that let the real stars shine: the skyline view, the art, the music. It’s the perfect understated backdrop for Milan to happen to you. The room also sports an open wardrobe—minimalist, stylish, and generously sized. It fit my full suitcase and my retail therapy aftermath, with room to spare. Milan expects you to shop, and this wardrobe is clearly in on it.

The bathroom was stocked with C.O. Bigelow products, a.k.a. a small mercy for those of us who will mourn the lack of a spa. The lavender-peppermint combo was relaxing, refreshing, and just medicinal enough to make you believe in self-care again.

    Food and drink

ME Milan keeps you stylishly satiated with two on-site dining spots. There’s STK Milano, the Italian outpost of the globally-loved steakhouse brand—slick, sceney, and always dressed for dinner. I sat under a halo of low lighting, eating the most fabulous beef carpaccio layered with raw prawns and tempura herbs, while Bobby Brown’s “That’s the Way Love Is” floated through the speakers like a smooth, nostalgic blessing.

And then…a mini burger arrived. A second appetizer from the host, just “to taste.” Succulent, rosemary- and garlic-infused, unapologetically juicy—it had the kind of flavor that makes you close your eyes, rethink your life, and briefly forget you’re in a public place. Do not skip it.

And then there’s Radio Bar, the all-day chameleon: part café, part restaurant, part rooftop lounge. By morning it’s espresso and sunshine, by night it’s house beats, an insanely sexy playlist, cocktails, and the kind of buzz that lingers well past last call. On our first night, the martinis arrived accompanied by the aperitivo trinity: green olives, potato chips, and roasted almonds. By the second night—after a long day of fantasy shopping near the Duomo—we were basically locals, sliding into our corner table like we’d always belonged there.

It invites in a rotating dreamscape of a crowd—young 30-somethings with a Milanese Bushwick/Shoreditch energy, coming to see and be seen, cigarettes lit like punctuation. (If smoke isn’t your thing, this isn’t your spot.) And let’s be clear: These aren’t just hotel guests. The bar attracts a curated, intentional, and alive scene. Whoever’s promoting this place knows exactly how to conjure a feeling.

    The neighborhood/area

Okay, hear us out on the location. It’s not the sexiest block in Milan—there’s no dramatic cobblestone strut or hidden aperitivo courtyard—but what it lacks in cinematic charm, it more than makes up for in convenience. You’re a breezy 20-minute walk to the Duomo, and quite literally within reach of every luxury retailer the universe has to offer. And let’s be real—if you’ve overdone it at Galleria Vittorio or developed a shopping bag situation (we did), there’s always Uber.

    The spa

The one (truly devastating) downside? No spa. We know. We screamed too. But here’s the workaround—ME knows their clientele. Models, designers, mysterious creative types who whisper instead of speak…these are people who prefer their wellness à la carte. So the hotel will call in the big guns and arrange in-room massages and facials through their network of very chic local spa partners.

    The service

Service was warm, polite, and—like most things in Italy—unhurried. There's a slower rhythm here, one that invites you (okay, forces you) to unclench. So sit down, settle in, and let the espresso arrive when it arrives; this isn’t a place for rushing.

    Anything left to mention?

If you’re looking for a constant hum, ask for a room on the ninth floor, just beneath Radio Bar. I stayed there and kept my window wide open, Milan’s streets buzzing below, chill house music floating down from above. That way, I never really left the party—I could dip in and dip out, be a part of the energy, or just observe it like art.
