Why book?
Opened in 2023, this newcomer to Montreal’s hotel scene offers the atmosphere of a hip lifestyle hotel with the perks of being part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio (hello Bonvoy points).
Set the scene
This hotel feels quintessentially Montreal thanks to its high-design 2020’s-meets-1920’s concept. Think lots of Deco inspired velvet furniture, colorful artworks, and a buzzing lobby and fifth-floor terrasse where artsy types and eccentric travelers intermingle.
The backstory
The hotel is part of Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio, a range of hotels known for its design-forward interiors, art installations, and independent-feeling atmosphere. In a city with no shortage of chain hotels, the Honeyrose offers a quirky-cool take on Montreal that feels authentic–just visit its popular fifth-floor Muze Lounge & Terrasse in the warmer months for a glimpse of the city’s cool kids.
The rooms
The rooms are sexy, and definitely veer towards young travelers and couples (see: painted glass showers with rainfall showerheads). Beds are wonderfully plush and comfortable, with Napa Beautyrest mattresses and fluffy duvets–think of this as the hotel for a lazy and cozy morning after a long night out. All rooms and suites have oversized windows that offer an abundance of natural light throughout the day. Wifi is fast and free, and in each room there’s a bedside tablet for information on local activities and placing room service orders.
Food and drink
Commodore Café and Restaurant caters to locals and guests alike: with a walk-in café with a great array of espresso drinks and pastries, and a table service restaurant with French bistro-style menu. The design is just gorgeous–you can count on Commodore for a great Instagram, or a flatteringly-lit date night. (The restaurant also provides room service if you prefer to eat in your room.) From May to September, the fifth floor Muze Lounge & Terrasse offers fresh California-inspired fare and cocktails–a perfect pairing for the open-air terrasse, one of the largest in downtown Montreal.
The neighborhood/area
It sits in the heart of the Quartier des Spectacles, with easy access to McGill University and both the Golden Square Mile and Old Montreal neighborhoods. It’s a solid option if you’re in town for one of Montreal’s many festivals.
The service
Service here is helpful and friendly without being white-gloved or overly formal. There are friendly and contemporary touches throughout the guest experience–like a house Spotify playlist to continue your Honeyrose experience after checkout.
Eco effort
The hotel keeps beehives on the roof and harvests that honey for use in its bars and restaurants, and for sale in its boutique.
Accessibility
Each floor of this new building is accessible by elevator, and accessible King rooms are available.
Anything left to mention?
This hotel has a hidden gem–a fantastic 15th floor pool, gym, movement studio, and dry sauna. And as opposed to some hotel gyms and pools which can feel dank and dark, the wellness complex here is airy and drenched with natural light. It’s a great amenity for a hotel in Montreal’s downtown core.
