    Why book?

If you are looking for a Miami Beach getaway that feels more refined, relaxed, and upscale than some of the neighborhoods’ more sceney offerings, Andaz Miami Beach is for you.

    Set the scene

A stunning newcomer to the Miami Beach hotel scene, this is the first Andaz to open in Florida, revamping the former Confidante hotel into a secluded oasis with palm-fronded pools and buzzy restaurants. In signature Andaz fashion, there is no check-in desk; instead, each guest is seated and personally welcomed with a cocktail—in my case, it was a refreshing hibiscus lemonade spiked with arak. The elevated lobby is awash in hues of aqua, mint, turquoise, and sage—echoing the views of the Atlantic framed by floor-to-ceiling windows and curvilinear couches. The turquoise umbrellas and coral-colored daybeds by the two heated pools are cozy and inviting.

Occupying a full city block, the hotel is sprawling but feels intimate, with plenty of sitting areas and lounges for quiet moments. Those who want to enjoy Florida’s natural beauty and surplus of vitamin D—without being beholden to the crowds in South Beach—are in the right spot.

    The backstory

Hyatt’s Andaz hotels are well tailored to their locations, and the Andaz Miami Beach’s sophisticated, beachy vibe honors its Art Deco history while also embracing its oceanfront locale. The three-building complex has a rich history, originally built in the 1940s as the 18-floor Lord Tarleton Hotel, Miami Beach's first skyscraper. It has been transformed over the years, evolving from a hotel to a residential tower and eventually becoming The Confidante hotel in 2016. In 2024, the hotel underwent an 18-month renovation headed up by design firm EoA Group, which modernized guest rooms, expanded suites, and upgraded meeting and event spaces. There are unique design touches throughout—take a peek at the circular “oculus” windows at the bottom of the terrace fountains that provide light to the restaurant patio below. A 1929 historic, single-family house is located on-site and has been preserved and restored to function as the clubhouse for a private members club on property. And—a first for Miami—the property’s terrace swimming pool features a hydraulic floor system that seamlessly elevates the pool floor to create a solid surface fitting for special events.

    The rooms

There are a whopping 27 room types across the 287 accommodations, including 64 suites, and each features luxurious linens, Byredo bath amenities, a Nespresso coffee maker, and a hotel-branded beach bag in each room. The suites have expansive layouts, many of which feature connecting rooms for added flexibility, plush living rooms, and deep soaking tubs perfect for longer stays.

    Food and drink

Chef José Andrés has brought his prowess to the hotel with three different culinary experiences. There’s Aguasal on the ground floor, blending Mediterranean and Latin influences into a dinner menu with dishes like mussels saganaki and farm chicken tagine. The kitchen is a whiz with veggie dishes as well—we tried a fried oyster mushroom with whipped hummus that one of my kids swore was better than fried chicken, and a zucchini soup that was a revelation. We also loved the breakfast takes on Spanish staples like the tortilla española and the tres leches French toast. On the lobby level is Bar Centro, a breezy Spanish lounge by day and a sleek cocktail bar by night, with whimsical presentations of tapas like the liquidy marinated Ferran Adria olives and chicken croquetas made with creamy béchamel. The cocktail menu is equally compelling, with drinks like the “Reverse Carajillo,” which is their take on an espresso martini made with cold brew and tres leches espuma. A third restaurant—The Bazaar by José Andrés, is set to open next year.

    The spa

The smartly designed Ondara spa, perched on the fourth-floor terrace, features all of the cutting-edge beauty and wellness treatments that Miami is known for, including advanced skincare and touchless therapies using Obagi Skincare products. The relaxation lounge where you await your treatment features ergonomic loungers with views of the ocean, while the women’s locker room stocks Amika hair products as well as all manner of styling appliances from hair dryers to flat irons.

    The neighborhood/area

Located in mid-beach, the hotel feels off-the-beaten path in the best possible way. South Beach is a 15-minute drive away, but there’s also the neighboring Soho House and the Fontainebleau hotels within walking distance if you feel like a change of scenery. The paved beach path that flanks the ocean is great for morning walks or for bike rides using the hotel’s on-site electric bikes.

    The service

Smooth without being overly fussy, fitting with the relaxed vibe of the hotel. All staff, from the lobby floor at check-in to the massage experts in the spa, genuinely want you and your fellow guests to have the most optimal stay—it’s evident in their attentiveness and willingness to help. We particularly loved the recommendations from the restaurant servers, who were thoroughly familiar with all the dishes and made great suggestions for navigating the dinner and breakfast menus. I should also make special mention of the valets who dash about parking cars and retrieving them—all with a smile.

    For families

Those traveling with or without kids will be impressed by the expansive multi-level pool decks, which feature two pools and are perfect for luxuriating solo or enjoying with the family.

    Eco effort

The house car is an electric Rivian SUV available on demand. I loved the refillable water bottles provided for guests to use at the filtered water dispensers throughout the hotel.

    Accessibility

Public areas like the hotel lobby, pool, and restrooms are ADA compliant. Accessible guest rooms with mobility features have doorways with 32 inches of width clearance.

    Anything left to mention?

Pets are also welcome here, with dog-friendly rooms stocked with amenities that include a dog bowl, treats, and toys, as well as a pet-in-room door hanger.
