How did it strike you on arrival?
Modern, cool, and polished, 11 Howard is all about clean lines and a sense of being a refuge from the bustle right outside the door (it's in SoHo, just north of Canal Street), while a palette of creams, grays, and pale pink give off a feeling of zen.

    Nice. What’s the crowd like?
Young, aspirational freelancers and start-up folks who want a stylish high-end hotel, but without a hint of stuffiness, seem to make up a big part of the tribe here.

Most importantly: Tell us about your room.
Simple but really well done, the Howard Queen has high ceilings, light oak wood floors, Danish-inspired modern furniture and bamboo area rugs. Little touches—like solid blocks of wood as side tables—leave a big impression. It's almost enough to make you never want to leave the room.

We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us?
Comfy bed with blankets by Italian bedding brand Society.

How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that worth a mention?
The custom ceramic wall sculptures by artist Katie Yang speak to the attention to detail here, and we'd gladly bring those cozy Society bed throws home with us.

Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down.
Bathrooms are small but gorgeous and well stocked, with marble and copper fixtures, a strong shower, and organic bath amenities from Grown Alchemist.

We all need Wi-Fi, so what’s the word on that?
    Strong, free Wi-Fi.

Anything stand out about other services and features?
11 Howard happens to house one of the best NYC restaurants Le Coucou (you've probably seen the Instagrams). But the Blonde offers cocktails and bar bites, and–if all you want is a great cappuccino or a glass of wine–the Library is a social lounge and workspace that's an easy place to while away a few hours.

What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay?
The rooms here are meant to be oases of modern, polished calm—and on that front, the hotel exceeds expectations.

Bottom line: worth it, and why?
Nothing feels cookie cutter at 11 Howard, where every piece of furniture, art, and bath product, is enough to make you want to pause and take a look.
