Why book?
For a clean, quiet, and relatively affordable stay in the heart of South Beach.
Set the scene
With a nearly empty lobby bar and small rooftop pool, you won’t find many spring breakers or rowdy party-goers here. Instead, the Hyatt Centric South Beach is better suited for business travelers or those looking for a quiet place to rest their head after a day at the beach or before a cruise.
The backstory
The hotel initially opened in 2015 but recently completed renovations of the lobby and guest rooms in 2024. The modern, uncluttered design makes the spaces feel brand-new.
The rooms
The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and clean, and the beds are comfortable. I appreciated the room’s warm touches and neutral tones; I have always found Miami’s affinity for bright white walls and marble slightly jarring. However, the walls are thin and the heavier-than-normal doors loudly slam shut behind you, meaning you can hear your neighbors come and go—a disturbance frequent enough to wake light sleepers. The floor-to-ceiling windows allow for plenty of natural light.
Food and drink
Hyatt Globalist members receive complimentary breakfast, served á la carte from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. I recommend making your lunch and dinner reservations elsewhere—options abound. For quick bites, Joe & The Juice is located downstairs and there’s a Playa Bowls across the street, two convenient options for when you want something healthy and on-the-go. Walk two blocks to Cortadito for the eponymous Cuban coffee or a great café con leche.
The spa
There is no onsite spa or gym, however guests have access to the Sea Spa and fitness center owned by the Lowes Hotel across the street. If you prefer to work out in the early morning or evening, know that hours are limited (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.).
The neighborhood/area
The prime location is the main reason I would stay at this hotel again. You’re directly across the street from the beach and Ocean Drive, and walking distance from the South Beach conference center if you’re visiting on business. But compared to the beachfront hotels with lively pools and bars across the street, you’re still able to retreat to relative quiet. For the price, it's a great home base to explore Miami and get some salt and sun.
The service
The front desk and housekeeping staff are all very friendly and accommodating. The servers and bartenders are short-staffed, so expect a wait for cocktails and food ordered by the pool.
For families
I didn’t encounter any young families during my stay, but I don’t think this would be a bad option for traveling with children if you’re looking for a well-positioned launch pad and don’t mind the lack of resort amenities.
Eco effort
The hotel uses disposable plastic water bottles; there were no refilling stations for my reusable bottle.
Accessibility
All hotel areas have accessible routes from the ramp-accessible front public entrance. The lobby, restaurant, bar, and pool are all located on the third floor, accessible via elevators.
Anything left to mention?
There is a daily resort fee of $40. To get your money's worth, know that this includes beach access with two beach chairs and towels (provided by Lowes); sunrise and sunset yoga classes on 3rd Street and Ocean Drive; daily 10% off beverages at the bar; 10% off Spa services; and use of complimentary bicycles.
